Cosmetic regulation in Australia
Australia has its own regulatory framework for cosmetics, based primarily on the assessment and introduction of industrial chemicals under the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS).
Unlike the European Union, Australia does not operate a product-based cosmetic notification system. Compliance depends on the classification of the ingredients, the product’s regulatory status and the obligations of the importer or local manufacturer.
For this reason, a specific regulatory assessment is essential before placing cosmetic products on the Australian market.
